Just do it

Just do it. That’s Nike’s slogan. And It works. This article is not about Nike or their slogan. It’s about you. And it’s about me.

Yesterday, I wrote a blog post for the first time after six months where I gave a quick summary of my life in six months. And the post caught fire — not viral yet.

I didn’t feel like writing that article. I just did it.

After publishing the post on my blog, I shared it to my network on Facebook and Twitter. I also republished the article on LinkedIn Pulse and Medium. And it caught the interest of an editor and was republished to their audience.

That article opened new doors of opportunities for me. I became a writer for the Ascent. My article was featured on their homepage yesterday — almost immediately I finished writing it.

Then, a few hours after that, I got an email from a headhunting company. They want me to fill the position of a Business Operation Manager (Hosting/social media/content manager) for their client who have a market capitalization of over $257 billion USD.

Just do it. You never can tell what will happen.

Before I wrote that article, I was hungry. Like very hungry. And I’m still hungry. I’m hungry for something more than physical food. I am hungry for success. I want to do something great. I want to change the status quo. I want to just do something. Not just for myself alone but for others.

But, the problem is that I can’t help others without first helping myself. So, I had to do something different from what I’ve been doing. I need to change my thinking. I need to start doing more of the important things. I need to shake things up.

And this applies to you too. It doesn’t matter whether you’re ready or not. You don’t have to be perfect to start. You don’t have to feel it to start. Just do it. Just do something. You never can tell what will happen.

A former class mate of mine got 95 marks out of 100 in an examination. And I asked him how they did it. Their response “I don’t know too. I just did it.”

It’s as simple as that. Nothing complicated. Just do it.

My company — our company — is growing every day. We are making steady progress because we just do it even when we don’t feel like it. I’ve made mistakes. We have made mistakes. But, we’re moving forward.

I do my part. They do their parts. We all do our parts. It doesn’t matter whether we’re motivated or not. It doesn’t matter whether we’re broke or not. It doesn’t matter whether we see ourselves or not. We just do it.

I learnt a lot of things from life just by writing my last blog post. One of the lessons that stick out is this: If you don’t get out there more often, no one will know you.

I had a very revealing chat with a friend of mine yesterday after reading one of their soon-to-be released books. They made me discover one of my greatest fears — building a tribe and a following.

Yes. That’s my fear. I’m afraid of building a following. I’m afraid of having the fate of thousands of people in my hands. I’m afraid that I might disappoint them one day. I’m afraid that I won’t be there one day.

But those are just unfounded fears. I won’t disappoint anyone. I don’t control any one’s fate. I’ll only be a guide to them. That’s what leaders do. That’s what it means to help others achieve their goals. That’s what responsibility is all about. I’ll be revealing more about this in one of my articles.

I’ve everything I need. I just have to do it.

Then a thought crossed my mind. What if I didn’t write that article. What if I’ve procrastinated. What if I’ve have succumbed to my feelings. But, I didn’t.

You never can tell what I would have missed.

I’m not writing this to make you think about what you might have missed. No. This is not an article about thinking. This is a call to action. Just do it even if you don’t feel like it. Just do it, even if you don’t feel good enough.

Don’t listen to your fears. Don’t listen to the voice of others. Just do it.

My life is far from perfect. I’m human too. I have bad days. I have good days. Sometimes, my writing is poor. Who cares. I just do it. By doing every day, I’m also improving every day.

I push myself every day. I create a path for myself every day. I put my name out there every day.

Before this year comes to a close, I have some goals that I need to score. All I want to do is score these goals. And I’ll score them. Do you know why? Because I will just do it.
